My Approach

My Approach

It feels hard to believe now while you’re in the thick of planning one of the most important days of your lives, but soon enough your dress will hang in the back of your closet, you’ll forget the flavour of your cake, and you’ll rely on your wedding images to help you relive and feel the emotion of your day. These images will help your children, and your grandchild get a sense of who you were as a couple in the very beginning of your love story.

I am a social butterfly, and I find that this paired with a good sense of humour generally makes anyone feel comfortable in front of my camera.  I’m honest, I provide a lot of direction and come with a boatload of ideas. I am not the quiet photographer dressed in black who will let that hair elastic stay on your wrist all day.

I live for moments of laughter, and expressions of love. These are the things that inspire me and they are the moments that I live to capture. For this reason, I take as much of a documentary approach on your wedding day as I can.

My clients become friends, they share incredible moments with me, and are vulnerable behind my lens. I will bend over backwards for you as my client and travel to the end of the earth for you. I’m not for every couple, but I’m for the couple who feels the connection to me and my images.

How many weddings do you take on a year?

I take a maximum of 20 wedding per year. I do this so that I can provide the best service for my clients.

How far in advance do you book?

I usually am booked a year in advance. After you’ve secured your venue, securing your photographer is ideally the next thing on your list. Don’t let this worry you though, sometimes I don’t get booked until months before a wedding.

What are consultations?

Consultations are just an opportunity for us to get to know one another better to see if we “mesh” together. Coffee or wine; you pick and all we do is chat and discuss your photography options and get to know one another better. You have the chance to pick my brain with all the questions you may have. Ideally I meet ALL of my couples for consultations before confirming your booking, but distance sometimes gets in the way. For out of town clients, I’m also able to Skype or Facetime with you for our consultation.

How many pictures will I get?

On an average, I say about 70 images per hour from one photographer, and 90 images per hour from two photographers.

What is your turn around time?

It always depends on how busy the season is, but on average, for engagement sessions it’s about 4 weeks, and weddings about 8-10 weeks.

Do you offer elopement packages?

I certainly do! Email me with your plans and I’d be happy to provide you a quote.

Can we give you a shot list?

The only shot list I require is a family photo list for efficiency purposes. Besides that I’d appreciate it if you didn’t put together a shot list. If you like my portfolio, then you’ll like the kind of images I capture for you. Of course the occasional handful of photos you’d really like we can do, but no scroll lists please.

I don’t photograph well, how do you work with this?

Don’t worry, you’re not the first nor last person to say this. Laughter; that’s how!! We’ll talk and joke a lot throughout your session, and before you know it you’ll fall into it.

Should we really have an engagement session?

Engagement sessions are a great way for us to get to know each other better. I’ll see what you’re like behind the lens and you’ll learn what it’s like to be “professionally photographed”. It’s a great way to shake the nerves, so that when I show up on your wedding day I don’t just feel like a vendor but like a friend. We pick a location that has meaning to you so that these aren’t just any photos, but photos that are in a special place so that you’ll cherish them forever.

Can we print our own photos?

Of course you can, but after I show you the prints I have done as a sample for you from Costco, Walmart, and my Professional Lab, I don’t think you’ll want to print anywhere but through me ;)

Do you travel outside of Simcoe?

I certainly do! I’ll go wherever I need to go to photograph your wedding. My passport is always ready.

Do you offer albums?

YES! And I want you to have one. I’ll show you them when we meet for a consultation and talk you through your options.

Can you hold our date?

Due to the nature of the industry, multiple inquires will sometimes come in within days of one another. So unfortunately your booking is not complete until a contract has been signed and your retainer fee is paid.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day?

We smile, laugh, and take photos just like we would if it was sunny. I have 12 clear umbrellas for you and your bridal party and we will face the rain head on. The only time we don’t shoot outdoors is if it’s a downpour or if it’s thundering or raining. We’ll do our homework beforehand to have a good indoor plan B location.
